Building an AI-driven schedule with Mesh and ChatGPT
Most “AI task managers” generate a list and stop there. The hard part isn’t writing the tasks — it’s finding honest time for them. This guide shows how to wire an assistant to Mesh so it can add work and place it on the calendar you actually live in.
What you need
- A Mesh account (free while in beta)
- A connected Google or Outlook calendar
- ChatGPT or Claude with remote MCP connectors enabled
1. Connect Mesh to your assistant
Mesh runs an MCP server at https://meshtodo.com/mcp. In ChatGPT or Claude, add it as a remote MCP connector and sign in with your Mesh account. The assistant gets your permissions — nothing more. Full click-by-click steps live on the connect page.
2. Let the assistant write the tasks
Paste a meeting transcript or a messy brain-dump and ask: “Add these to Mesh, with rough durations.” The assistant calls create_task once per item. You stay the editor — everything shows up in Mesh for review.
3. Let the calendar pick the time
This is where an AI task manager stops being a fancier notepad. Ask “When can I do the memo this week?” and the assistant calls suggest_times, which reads your connected Google or Outlook calendar, respects your working hours, and returns real gaps between real meetings — not invented slots.
4. Close the loop from either side
Complete something in chat and Mesh removes the matching calendar event. Move a meeting in your calendar and Mesh reflows the tasks it displaced. The assistant and the calendar stay in agreement without you re-typing anything.
What the assistant can actually do
Mesh exposes a fixed set of MCP tools. Anything outside this list is off-limits, which is what makes handing an assistant your to-do list reasonable rather than reckless.

Tools like Todoist and TickTick are excellent lists with AI bolted on: the assistant helps you phrase and sort work, but the day is still yours to reassemble by hand every time a meeting moves. The question worth asking of any AI task manager is narrow:
- Can it read your real calendar, or only its own idea of your day?
- Does it respect working hours, locked blocks, and time zones?
- When a meeting shifts, does anything move on its own — and can you undo it?
- Can an outside assistant drive it, or is the AI trapped inside the app?
